You’ll never escape from this BAC Mono police car

The Isle of Man police force have added an eye-catching addition to their fleet of patrol cars – a single-seater BAC Mono. The road-legal, super lightweight sports car will become an active member of the police fleet and will also attend various local festivals.

This specially-commissioned BAC Mono will be used by Isle of Man police to promote safe and responsible driving, which could be viewed as unusual given the car’s design and performance. But while it may lack in subtlety or practicality, the Isle of Man police force’s new car should be able to keep up with pretty much any speeding motorist, regardless of what they are driving.

The BAC Mono is equipped with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 305bhp and up to 308Nm of torque. This unit combined with the incredibly sleek and lightweight carbon fibre body means a 0-60mph sprint time of just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 170mph.

Driving the police BAC Mono will be the advanced driver, police motorcyclist and collision investigator PC Andy Greaves. Understandably chuffed with his new car for work, Greaves said: “It’s a remarkable vehicle, and clearly will be of huge interest to bikers and car drivers alike.

“We are here to promote safe use of the road, and it’s amazing how many people want to talk to you when this is your transport.”
