£24m worth of cars blown up in new Bond film SPECTRE

Stunt coordinators working on the new James Bond film, SPECTRE, have stated that over £24 million worth of vehicles have been destroyed during production.

Stunt coordinators working on the new James Bond film, SPECTRE, have admitted that they’ve destroyed more than £24 million worth of vehicles during production.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, stunt chiefs blew up seven of the specially-designed Aston Martin DB10 sports cars used in the film, of which only ten are in existence.

The unique one-off DB10 models, each of which feature the same ejector seat as 007’s classic DB5 from 1964’s Goldfinger, were created specifically for use in the 24th official Bond movie.

While the £24m accounts for more than 10 per cent of the movie’s £200m budget, it’s likely that the DB10s were obtained at cut price, as the marque has an ongoing deal to provide cars for the films.

As well as that, an exclusive Land Rover which features in one of SPECTRE’s key action scenes was blown up during filming of a scene where it collides with an aeroplane piloted by Bond.

Gary Powell, SPECTRE’s chief stunt coordinator, said: “We set the record for smashing up cars on SPECTRE. In Rome, we wrecked millions of pounds’ worth. They were going into the Vatican at top speeds of 110mph. We shot one entire night for four seconds of film.”

The Rome scene, which alone accounted for damage worth seven figures, also features the Jaguar C-X75 hypercar, which will serve as the vehicle of choice for Dave Bautista’s villainous Mr Hinx.

With a metallic orange finish and the same 500bhp supercharged V8 engine that features in the F-TYPE sports car, the C-X75 is one of several Jaguar Land Rover vehicles to appear in the film.

Land Rover also supplied the production team with the new Range Rover Sport SVR, along with two unique versions of the Defender with huge 37-inch off-road tyres, known as the Defender Big Foot.

Jaguar also has a long history of supplying cars for the series, after the XJ8 and XJR appeared in the 2006 version of Casino Royale, and Die Another Day starred the now-famous machine gun-equipped XKR.

SPECTRE’s destruction nevertheless pales in comparison to the 230 cars reportedly destroyed during the 2013 shoot for Fast & Furious 7, which saw several Mercedes cars totalled, alongside a Ford Crown Victoria and Mitsubishi Montero.
