The C3’s lower end petrol engines fall a bit flat but the nippier 1.4 and 1.6 diesels are more than capable engines for city driving.
Emissions
The Citroen supermini’s diesel engines have superb fuel economy over 60mpg and the petrol engines won’t break the bank either.
Driving
The C3 is nowhere near the best in the sector in the handling stakes, and you’ll feel every bump.
Feel
Relatively quiet on the roads, a suspension set up for comfort, though the C3 doesn’t enjoy potholes.
Space
The C3’s rear can be cramped for adults, but there’s nothing to complain about in terms of boot space – 300 litres extend to over 1,100, which is excellent for the sector.
Equipment
Basic stuff at entry-level on the C3. Cruise control, alloys and sunroof at higher specs and automatic gearbox at all levels bar entry. Watch the price – you could end up paying nearly £18K for a Citroen C3 without options; and that would be utterly insane.
Price
The C3 is competitively priced with good fuel economy, tax and insurance; avoid higher specs – you won’t get that money back at resale.
Quality
The C3 is much improved over previous generations, with a neat and comfortable interior.
Safety
Four star EuroNCAP safety rating for the Citroen C3 as stability control is an optional extra only – poor for this sector.
Pros
Strong engines; higher quality than previous versions.
Cons
Boring to look at, be seen in and to drive.
