Entry-Level Vauxhall Ampera Announced

(Wednesday 11 July 2012)

Vauxhall Ampera.

As it has been promising to do for some time, Vauxhall has introduced a new version of its range-extended electric Ampera which you can buy for under £30,000.

Not, admittedly, very much under. The actual figure of the new model, named Earth, is £29,995, and that includes a £5000 contribution from the UK Government through its Plug-In Car Grant. But it's still £2255 cheaper than the now mid-range Positiv.

The saving comes from using black cloth rather than leather upholstery, not heating the front seats and taking away the front and rear parking sensors and rear parking camera. Mechanically, though, the Earth is exactly the same as any other Ampera, and its list of standard equipment includes electronic climate control air-conditioning, cruise control, DAB digital radio and Bluetooth phone connectivity.

Presumably top of the range is Negativ?

Nice one - and almost right. It's actually Electron.
