2016 Mercedes C 63 AMG Coupe revealed

Mercedes has released the first details and pictures of its new AMG performance coupe range, the C 63. It’s based on the new C-Class coupe, which was also revealed very recently. Like the rest of the range, the C 63 AMG will make its public debut appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

As well as being more powerful than a standard C-Class coupe of course, the C 63 also has a retuned chassis, sportier suspension and aerodynamic improvements to the body.

The new C 63 launches in March next year and will rival the likes of the BMW M4 and Audi RS 5. The AMG model is available in two specifications, with standard and S versions available. Both versions use a 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine with two turbochargers – the same unit featured in the C 63 AMG versions of the saloon and estate. This engine is hooked up to a seven-speed sports automatic gearbox.

In standard form the new C 63 Coupe produces 469bhp, resulting in a 0-62mph sprint time of just four seconds. The S model meanwhile offers 503bhp and this cuts the benchmark sprint time slightly to 3.9 seconds. Both versions of the AMG Coupe have an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. Buying the optional Driver’s Package, however, increases the top speed to 180mph.

While the C 63 AMG Coupe is faster than ever before, it is also more efficient. Both versions record an official combined fuel economy figure of 32.8mpg and CO2 emissions from 200g/km.

Drivers of the new C 63 AMG Coupe can switch between four different driving modes and there’s three settings for the dampers and electronic stability control.
