5 new cars you can get for £200 per month

Looking for a new car, but on a budget? Here are five affordable choices to finance

A new car might be the last thing on your mind at the minute, but if you’re looking at a new model, there are now some great savings to be had.

With manufacturers striving to make a new model as affordable as possible at these challenging times, we’ve had a search for some of the best new car offers available.

So, with a strict budget of £200 per month, here are five great models.

Ford Fiesta

The Ford Fiesta remains Britain’s best-selling new car, and it’s not surprising given its enjoyable driving experience, roomy interior and  affordable pricing.

Ford has recently switched its trim offerings around, and it means the new entry-level grade is called the ‘Trend’. It’s far from basic, though, with standard kit including an eight-inch touchscreen, air-conditioning and 16-inch alloy wheels to name but a few features.

It’s also great value for money, with various Fiesta derivatives available for less than £200 per month, though it’s the model with the 94bhp 1.0-litre petrol unit selected here. With a £1,000 deposit contribution and a low APR rate, it’s more affordable to finance than it is to buy in one go.

Ford is also offering various support – including deferring payments – to make getting behind the wheel of a new Fiesta even simpler. It’s worth speaking to your local dealer to see what’s available to you.

Abarth 595 1.4 T-Jet

It’s quite surprising just how far a budget of £200 per month will go on a new car, and it could get you behind the wheel of a new hot hatch – the Abarth 595.

Based on the Fiat 500, Abarth heavily tunes the model, gives it racier styling and also a punchy 143bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine – something that allows it to sprint from 0-60mph in 7.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 130mph.

While this budget limits you to the entry-level ‘595’ grade, it still comes as standard with a digital driver display, 16-inch alloys and a five-inch touchscreen. A £1,200 contribution is also offered by Abarth, though a steep 6.8 per cent APR rate makes it more expensive to finance than buy.

Audi A1

Impressively a £200 budget could also stretch to something more premium, and even an Audi – the firm’s desirable A1 supermini.

This upmarket supermini is impressive to drive, has a high-quality interior and comes impressively well-equipped. Just a few highlights include LED headlights, a large 10.25-inch digital cockpit and 8.8-inch touchscreen.

This budget docks you at the entry-level Technik grade and also with the 94bhp 1.0-litre petrol unit (badged 25 TFSI), but this unit is a surprisingly good all-rounder for a smaller engine. A £700 deposit and strong residual values add to the appeal.

Renault Clio

If you’re looking for a practical small car for your family, a model that should be high on your priority list is Renault’s new Clio.

This new model looks smarter than ever, while now has a far more appealing interior thanks to its new layout and improved material quality. Its 392-litre boot is also huge for a car of this size.

Here we’ve chosen the Clio in mid-spec Iconic guise, which gives you a seven-inch touchscreen, 16-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights. Unlike other offers on this list, this is a two-year deal, rather than a four, but with zero per cent APR on offer, it still represents great value.

Seat Leon

Impressively, a £200 monthly budget will also grant you access to a car from the class above – giving you a roomier and more refined model.

Here we’ve chosen the Seat Leon. And, despite this offer applying to the outgoing version of this five-door hatch, the Leon still looks the part, is great to drive and comes with loads of standard kit.

It’s even more appealing thanks to Seat’s huge £3,000 deposit contribution, while even base SE Dynamic models come equipped with front and rear parking sensors, 17-inch alloy wheels and an eight-inch touchscreen.
