The Toyota Yaris continues to be this firm’s most popular car, and despite the last supermini’s faults, it was one of the UK’s best-selling cars.
So it bodes well for this dramatically-improved new Yaris, which is better to drive, far more stylish and has a great interior as well.

What powertrains are available?
Toyota is a manufacturer known for its impressive hybrid powertrains, and for this new Yaris, the brand has reverted to just offering it with an electrified setup.
There’s only one hybrid powertrain, which combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and battery to produce a combined 114bhp and 120Nm of torque. Power is delivered to the front wheels via CVT gearbox.
Performance is good for a car of this size, with 0-60mph taking 9.7 seconds and it’ll reach a top speed of 108mph too. But it’s efficiency where the Yaris is particularly impressive – returning up to 68.8mpg, with CO2 emissions of 92g/km.
What trim levels are available?
There’s plenty of trim levels available on the Yaris, with equipment highlights and pricing as follows.
Icon – from £19,910
All Yaris models come very well-equipped, with features including a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reversing camera, 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning, automatic lights and wipers and a leather steering wheel all brought as standard. It also comes with Toyota’s impressive ‘Safety Sense’ pack, which brings autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and lane keep assist.
Design – from £20,970
Upgrade to the Design to get a full suite of LED lights along with rear privacy glass, machined 16-inch alloy wheels and a larger eight-inch touchscreen.
Dynamic – from £21,920
Stylish Dynamic models bring larger 17-inch alloy wheels, along with part-leather sports seats, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, a JBL sound system and gloss black styling kit.
Excel – from £22,220
While Dynamic goes down a sportier route, Excel has a greater focus on comfort and premium-feel. It comes with subtler 17-inch alloy wheels, along with front and rear parking sensors, auto-folding door mirrors, satin chrome exterior styling and blind spot monitoring.
Launch Edition – from £24,005
At the top of the range, the Launch Edition comes with a large head-up display, along with blue ambient interior lighting and a special red and black colour scheme.
What about personalisation?
You might not expect personalisation to feature heavily on the Yaris, but you’d be wrong as there’s a great selection available.
There’s a good selection of colours on offer, including Titan Bronze, Tokyo Red and Galactic Blue, along with a host of Style Packs. These include having red, chrome and orange accents across the vehicle, which is a great way of adding extra flair to the Yaris.
There are few conventional optional extras available, though a panoramic glass roof is one that could be worth adding.
