SUVs have become instrumental to Ford’s success, with the brand increasing its focus on these types of cars over more conventional models.
Its SUV range consists of the popular Puma and Kuga, along with the brand’s most affordable crossover option – the Ecosport. Bringing chunky SUV styling, a high driving position and plenty of standard equipment, it appeals to many in this class.

What engines are available?
Ford has slimmed down the Ecosport’s engine range in recent years, with diesels and an entry-level petrol both being discontinued.
So all new Ecosports now use Ford’s turbocharged 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, with all featuring a six-speed manual gearbox – no automatic model is available currently.
A 123bhp version kicks off the range, and is able to accelerate to 60mph in 10.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 111mph. As for fuel efficiency, Ford claims 45.6mpg, and CO2 emissions of 142g/km. The more powerful 138bhp engine is marginally quicker – 0-60mph takes 10 seconds – but it’s very closely aligned in terms of fuel consumption.
What trim levels are offered?
Ford offers three well-equipped trim levels on the Ecosport – Titanium, ST-Line and Active. Kit highlights and prices are as follows.
Titanium – from £21,800
The Titanium might be the entry-level Ecosport, but it’s certainly not lacking in kit. Standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and an eight-inch touchscreen with DAB radio, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring. It also gets climate control, automatic lights and wipers, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera and cruise control. Autonomous emergency braking and lane keep assist are both included too.
ST-Line – from £22,600
The ST-Line brings sportier styling thanks to its racier bodykit, further black styling and dark 17-inch alloy wheels. You also get sports seats, steering wheels and sports suspension.
Active – from £22,875
The Active instead takes a more rugged approach, building on the Titanium model with its dark 17-inch alloy wheels, black body styling kit, extended wheel arches and black roof. It also comes with privacy glass and a greater choice of colours.
What about personalisation?
The Ecosport is possibly the most customisable Ford on the market, with a good range of colours available, including bright shades like Luxe Yellow, Fantastic Red and Desert Island Blue. You can also pay £350 for the top half of the car to be painted black, while the alloy wheels can be upgraded to 18 inches.
Optional extras available include the £600 Driver Assistance Pack, which brings blind spot monitoring, high beam assist, front parking sensors and rear cross traffic alert. The £300 Winter Pack is worth choosing too, gaining heating for the seats and steering wheel. The £600 ‘X-Pack’ is also tempting, featuring a 10-speaker B&O sound system, keyless entry and electric-folding mirrors.
