Now in its fourth generation, the Audi A8 continues to be one of the top options in the luxury saloon class, and in its current guise, the limo is at its most advanced.
Revealed back in 2017, the latest iteration of the A8 has been the source of technology for fellow Audi models ever since and is a credible alternative to what could be considered the market leader – the Mercedes S-Class.
Here we take a brief look at what is on offer with the Audi A8…
What power units are there?
Whichever power option you choose, Audi fits the A8 with an electrical system that is paired to the engine – effectively making the saloon a mild hybrid. The 48-volt setup helps to improve the efficiency of the car by cutting the engine out while the car is coasting and also employing a belt alternator starter to get the car going.
Only two units are available with the A8, both of which are 3.0-litre V6s. The petrol version – the newest addition – is labelled 55 TFSI and develops 335bhp and 500Nm of torque, helping the A8 get from 0-60mph in 5.4 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 155mph. For the 50 TDI diesel, the engine produces 282bhp and 600Nm of torque – allowing the A8 to get to 60mph from standstill in 5.7 seconds. It can also reach a top speed of 155mph. Both units are paired to quattro all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
What trims are available?
Audi currently offers the premium saloon in two guises – A8 and S line – and both are very well equipped. From the base level, the A8 comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive air suspension, LED lights with high beam assist, chrome exterior styling, a powered tailgate, leather upholstery, two-zone air conditioning, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit instrument display, two central touchscreen displays for the infotainment system and a series of driver assists.
S line is mostly a cosmetic upgrade, with larger 19-inch alloys, Matric LED headlights with dynamic indicators, sports styling, privacy glass, front sport seats in quilted leather and additional black detailing the only additions.
Audi does offer a series of option packs to make the model feel even more premium, such as rear entertainment systems, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, Night Vision, powered door close, heated steering wheel, additional leather and a panoramic sunroof.

Prices for the premium saloon start from £69,995 – which admittedly does get you a lot of car for the money. If you’re in need of a bit more wiggle room for rear passengers, the long wheelbase version can provide that, but with a starting price of £73,950.
