The Fiesta continues to be not only Ford’s most popular model in the UK, but also the country’s best-selling car – something it’s been for a consistent 11 years.
But as the new car market adapts and changes, Ford has had to evolve its supermini to maintain its appeal to customers. As well as the plush Vignale version, a more rugged ‘Active’ version has also been introduced in a bid to appeal to the vast number of buyers switching into SUVs and crossovers.
Featuring its own bespoke styling, it’s also separated by being 18mm higher up than the regular Fiesta and its black roof rails. If you’re thinking of getting one or looking at something slightly different to the regular Fiesta, here’s what you need to know…
What engines are available?
The Active utilises the same range of fantastic engines that you find on the regular Fiesta, with a number of petrol and diesel units to choose from.
The range starts with the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, which is offered with outputs of 94bhp, 123bhp and 138bhp. All but the 99bhp engine feature a six-speed manual gearbox, with this version instead being paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. It should be noted that you’re also only able to get the 138bhp version with the top-spec Active X.
Choose the 138bhp version if you value performance, as it can sprint from 0-60mph in 8.8 seconds and the 123bhp version for efficiency, as it can manage up to a claimed 55.4mpg, with low CO2 emissions of 96g/km.
There’s also an efficient 84bhp 1.5-litre diesel engine, which can return up to an impressive 65.7mpg, along with having CO2 emissions of just 93g/km.
What trim levels are available?
Within the Fiesta range, the Active version sits between Titanium and Titanium X versions, as well as ST-Line and ST-Line X. You can choose the rugged version in Active or Active X grades. Here’s a quick rundown on each…
Active – from £19,685
Standard equipment includes an eight-inch touchscreen, air conditioning, lane keep assist, as well as 17-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, cruise control, LED rear lights, automatic wipers, keyless start and a leather steering wheel. Bespoke Active features include black roof rails, selectable drive modes and raised suspension.
Active X – from £20,955
This ‘X’ model adds 18-inch alloy wheels, part-leather seats, climate control, keyless entry and a B&O sound system. It adds a host of safety kit, too – including traffic sign recognition, high beam assist and a driver attention monitoring system.
What about personalisation?
The Active model in itself is an extension to the Fiesta’s personalisation options – offering chunky styling that you won’t find on many other superminis. The bold ‘Luxe Yellow’ is an exclusive colour to the Active, while ‘Silver Fox’ is only found on ST models, too.
In terms of more conventional options, you can have heated front seats and a heated steering wheel (£300), though the choice is fairly limited.
