The Jazz has become very popular for Honda, as a car that blurs the boundaries between an MPV and a supermini.
It’s far roomier than plenty of its rivals, and for 2020 there is a new fourth-generation model, which sees quite a lot of changes being made – including hybrid powertrains, cooler styling and more technology. There’s also a new ‘Crosstar’ version to choose from, which brings rugged styling to the Jazz for the first time.
So if you’re looking at buying a Honda Jazz, here’s what you need to know…
What powertrains are available?
Honda is a brand committed to its electrified models, and it’s why the Jazz is now only available as a hybrid.
Powering it is a 1.5-litre petrol unit mated to an electric motor and battery, which produces 96bhp and 131Nm of torque. The gearbox is a CVT automatic, which delivers power to the front wheels.
The sprint to 60mph takes 9.2 seconds, while the Jazz would reach a top speed of 108mph if maxed out. But this new hybrid scores majorly on efficiency – Honda claiming it will return 62.8mpg, while having very low CO2 emissions of 102g/km.
What trim levels are offered?
Four trim levels are offered, with equipment highlights and pricing as follows…
SE – from £18,895
Entry-level Jazz models come with 15-inch alloy wheels, climate control, LED headlights, automatic lights and wipers, DAB radio and Bluetooth. It comes with a very impressive amount of safety kit, though, such as autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control.
SR – from £20,185
Upgrade to the SR to get 15-inch alloy wheels, soft-touch interior panels and part-leather upholstery. It also comes with a nine-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with front and rear parking sensors and automatically folding door mirrors.
EX – from £21,385
Make the step up to the EX to get larger 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, a heated leather steering wheel and heated front seats. It also adds satellite navigation, privacy glass, reversing camera and blind spot monitoring.
Crosstar EX – from £22,635
If you want something a bit more rugged-looking, there is the new top-spec Crosstar EX. This features a water repellent fabric upholstery, a rugged styling kit including roof rails, an eight-speaker sound system and silver door mirrors.
What about personalisation?
The Jazz isn’t a model that excels on the personalisation front, but it’s certainly helped by the addition of the new Crosstar trim level, which alongside its rugged look is available in a bespoke Surf Blue paint colour. A two-tone colour scheme is also available on these versions.
You can also make it stand out with new silver and orange colour packs, while a whole suite of protection and accessories are offered – including bike and ski carriers.
