Buyer’s guide to the Vauxhall Crossland X

Here’s everything you need to know about Vauxhall’s most affordable crossover.

Vauxhall’s crossover line-up is one of the best for offering buyers affordable and spacious and family cars, and there is little wonder why they’re so popular.

When it comes to the firm’s ‘X’ line-up, you can pick between the largest Grandland X, mid-size Mokka X and the model we’re focusing on here – the compact and affordable Crossland X.

Here’s everything you need to know about this entry-level crossover…

What engines are available?

The Crossland X comes with a variety of engines that are widely used across the PSA Group (including Citroen, Peugeot and DS), which are known for being reliable and good all-rounders.

The range starts with a 82bhp 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit, which offers the lowest CO2 emissions of all the petrol units – measuring 106g/km. It’s best for town use only, though, with the 0-60mph taking a rather lengthy 13.4 seconds. This is the only engine with a five-speed manual transmission – the rest use six-speed ‘boxes instead.

The turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol units are the more appealing, with buyers able to choose their version with either 108bhp or 128bhp – the latter being the only petrol engine available with a six-speed automatic transmission. Both offer a good mix of performance and efficiency – the 128bhp manual version returning the best fuel economy figure of 47.9mpg, along with the quickest 0-60mph time – 9.1 seconds.

If you cover longer distances, the diesel unit is the version to go for. The Crossland X’s 1.5-litre diesel unit is available with either 101bhp or 118bhp – the former just being paired to a six-speed manual transmission and the latter to a six-speed automatic. The former is the most efficient engine in the entire line-up – returning up to an impressive 61.4mpg.

What trim levels are offered?

Five trim grades are available, with equipment highlights and prices as follows.

Sport – from £18,435

Standard equipment is generous, and includes LED headlights, a seven-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and smartphone mirroring, as well as air conditioning, a leather steering wheel and diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheels.

Sport Nav Premium – from £19,685

In addition to Sport, this version adds a larger eight-inch touchscreen with voice control, satellite navigation and European mapping, as well as front and rear parking sensors and Vauxhall Connect on-call services.

Business Edition Nav – from £18,845

This model is focused towards the fleet market, and therefore loses some of the Crossland X’s stylish touches – missing out on its two-tone look and coming with smaller 16-inch alloy wheels. However, it adds dual-zone climate control, front fog lights, automatic lights and wipers, a driver’s armrest and ambient LED interior lighting.

Elite – from £19,595

This version essentially is a combination of the Business Edition Nav and Sport – coming with all the kit of the former with the style of the latter – e.g 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Elite Nav – from £20,645

Sitting at the top of the range is the Elite Nav, which brings an eight-inch touchscreen with voice control and satellite navigation, as well as Vauxhall Connect on-call services.

What about personalisation?

Vauxhall offers plenty of options to personalise your Crossland X – starting with eight different colours to choose from. A dark blue is the no-cost offering, but if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous – opt for ‘Power Orange Premium’ or ‘Hot Red Premium’ at £655.

Sport variants feature a two-tone roof and door and mirrors as standard, with buyers able to choose from a black or white contrasting colour. If you want this on the other grades, it is a £400 option.

The options list is also quite extensive, with one of our highlights being the £500 ‘Safety Pack’, which adds autonomous emergency braking and a driver drowsiness system. If you struggle to get comfortable behind the wheel, we also recommend opting for the AGR-approved (campaign for healthier backs) seats, which feature more adjustment to provide more comfort. These are a £425 option. The heated front windscreen is also an appealing offering, with this costing a modest £160.
