Hot hatch fans rejoice: the next-generation version of the Ford Fiesta ST, widely regarded as the most fun car in its class, is on its way soon.

The 2017 Fiesta ST is due to be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this Friday, but before that Ford has released a new teaser video hinting at the appearance of the all-new hot hatchback.

Very little of the car is actually shown off, but there’s that familiar rear spoiler, what looks like new alloy wheels and a new bodykit to fit the 2017 Fiesta’s revised exterior.

It might come as something of a shock to ST fans that it’s appearing so soon, given that the performance versions of cars usually come towards the end of their life cycle to keep the range fresh.

However, given the overwhelming success of the smallest model in the ST family, Ford has seen fit to release it around the same time as the rest of the range, with the car expected to be available by the end of the year.

A three-door version will be available eventually, but it’s understood that the car will first be available as a five-door to appeal to buyers who want both practicality and power.

Speaking of power, little is known about the new Fiesta ST’s specs, but rumours suggest that it could ditch the 1.6-litre engine in the current car in favour of a smaller 1.0-litre EcoBoost.

Currently, the most powerful 1.0-litre Ford makes is the 138bhp from the ST-Line models, but Ford has previously made one-off 202bhp 1.0-litres for the Formula Ford racing cars.
