2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 unveiled, the most extreme GLC ever made

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the most powerful and most extreme versions of the GLC premium SUV to date, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and GLC 63 Coupe.

Powered by the same 4.0-litre biturbo V8 engine as the AMG GT, you can have your monster GLC in two distinct flavours: the standard model with ‘only’ 469bhp and the S with 503bhp.

Each gets air suspension and adaptive dampers, along with the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, torque vectoring, a limited-slip diff on the rear axle and high-performance brakes.

A nine-speed automatic transmission comes as standard, and although so far Mercedes is keeping schtum on the exact performance figures each car will easily hit its limited top speed of 155mph.

On the outside, the GLC 63 builds on the chunky appearance of the regular GLC SUV and Coupe models, but gains much more bold styling touches including the same grille as the AMG GT.

A large front splitter, lower side sills and engorged wheel arches add to the aggressive looks, while a rear roof spoiler and chrome-plated tips for the twin tailpipes complete the exterior.

Inside, all GLC 63 variants get sports seats upholstered in Artico synthetic leather as standard, while the instrument panel is also trimmed in Artico with aluminium highlights.

S models get even more sporty interior touches like a black nappa leather AMG Performance steering wheel, plus exclusive AMG badging and an AMG instrument binnacle with red highlights.

Optional extras include the likes of additional exhaust flaps to better shape the sound of the exhaust note, extra AMG aerodynamic exterior parts, roof rails and a choice of different coloured leather and alloy wheels.

Prices for the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 range have yet to be released, but the cars are due to go on sale from this June with first deliveries due in September.
