2017 Renault ZOE details emerge, range nearly doubled

Details on the refreshed 2017 Renault ZOE have been released earlier than planned. Check out what's changed for the electric supermini here.

The fully-electric Renault ZOE is getting a refresh for 2017 and details including its new battery and extended range have been revealed online.

The information was leaked online by Renault’s Dutch brand website, ahead of the updated ZOE’s public debut later this week at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

A small picture of the updated ZOE, which has emerged online, shows that in terms of styling, the electric supermini looks pretty much identical to its appearance pre-refresh. The focus of Renault’s update is centred on the powertrain and the claimed range is now nearly double what it currently is.

Whereas the Renault ZOE currently uses a 22KWh battery, the refreshed version is available with a new 41KWh battery. This gives the ZOE an official travel range of 248 miles, based on the car’s performance in the official NEDC test cycle. With the original 22KWh battery, the ZOE’s official range was 130 miles.

The new official range for the ZOE comfortable beats the Nissan LEAF 30KWh and the updated BMW i3, which have claimed ranges of 155 miles and 195 miles respectively.

Three variants of the refreshed ZOE are expected to be confirmed during the electric car’s presentation at the Paris Motor Show. Details including pricing for the updated ZOE hasn’t been confirmed, but currently it starts at £13,945 (including the Government’s Plug-in Grant) and only a small price increase is likely for the refreshed model.
