Audi has taken the covers off its eighth iteration of the A6 saloon, with it carrying many features across from the A8.

It carries on the design language seen on the A8 and A7 flagship models, which were both inspired by the Prologue concept from 2014.

You could be mistaken for saying it’s a smaller A8 – and you’d be right, as the A6 includes almost all of the same equipment as its larger sibling, including mild-hybrid drivetrains and a dual-touchscreen layout on the central console.

The look of the A6 is almost identical to the A8 also, with the same hexagonal grille, lines and detailing carried over from the larger model into the high-end executive car.

Two powertrain options will be available – a 3.0-litre TDI diesel and a 3.0-litre V6 TFSI petrol – which both have a mild-hybrid setup and allow the model to coast on electric power alone at speeds up to 99mph. The V6 petrol is capable of getting from 0-60mph 4.9 seconds, as it produces 335bhp and 500Nm of torque. Both units have a limited top speed of 155mph and come with quattro all-wheel drive.

The petrol is fitted with a seven-speed S tronic automatic transmission, while the diesel option comes with an eight-speed automatic.

The chassis comes with a self-locking central differential, all-wheel steering, adaptive air suspension and damping, and an electronic chassis control system so you can personalise the ride.

Like its larger siblings, the A6 comes with LED headlights and a single rear brake light that spans the rear end and fits in with the boot line.

The interior design is almost identical to the A8 and A7, as all the equipment is titled towards the driver for a focused cockpit – with the dual central touchscreens and virtual cockpit display providing all the information needed for the driver.

The model will have three driver assistance packs available to it, including the park assist, the city assist and tour assist packages – with those incorporating the latest in Audi technology for those different segments of driving.

The A6 will have five trim options from launch, but what most people are waiting for is the launch of the dynamic RS6 Avant, which will be announced later in the model’s life cycle.

The new model will make its public debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, which runs from March 6-18.
