Kia has announced the third-generation Ceed will be unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

The family hatchback has been in production since 2006, and the latest version of the European-exclusive car will feature “innovative new technologies and engines, a mature and athletic new design, and a more engaging drive”.

Kia says the upcoming Ceed, designed in Frankfurt, Germany, is inspired by its halo Stinger and “conveys a more self-confident new look”.

The current Kia Cee'd has been in production since 2012

Alongside the new car comes a revised name — with Cee’d becoming Ceed, which Kia says is “consolidating its reputation as a car for the community of Europe.”

The latest Ceed will be revealed in five-door form alongside a “second member of the Ceed family” — although Kia has not revealed further details on this. Rumours have suggested the three-door model will be dropped in favour of a shooting brake model, with a crossover version also expected in the future.

The Ceed has been a staple of Kia’s line-up since its 2006 introduction and rose to fame during a stint as motoring show Top Gear’s reasonably priced car.

The Geneva Motor Show, where the new Ceed will be showcased, takes place from March 8 to 18.
