2018 Volkswagen Touareg is most advanced yet

Fitted with the new Innovision Cockpit design, the new Touareg comes with plenty of safety systems and a V6-filled engine line-up.

Volkswagen has revealed its latest version of the Touareg large SUV, with the new model debuting in the Chinese capital of Beijing.

With an all-new design to the body, the car comes with more interior space than before – with 113 litres more boot space – and the model is longer and wider.

Overall weight, however, is down by 106kg thanks to a lighter mix of aluminium and steel.

Under the bonnet, customers initially will only be able to choose from a 281bhp V6 diesel, with a 228bhp version coming later. A 335bhp V6 petrol and V8 turbodiesel producing 415bhp are also expected to be added to the engine line-up.

A plug-in hybrid has also been developed for the Touareg, although that hasn’t been confirmed for the UK market.

Tech-wise, the Touareg debuts Volkswagen’s new Innovision Cockpit setup which includes a 12-inch digital instrument display behind the steering wheel and a 15-inch central infotainment display – all housed in the same unit.

The Touareg also comes with the most safety features ever fitted to a Volkswagen model, as it comes with Night Vision assistance, Roadwork Lane assist, Front Cross Traffic assist, active all-wheel steering, roll stabilisation, LED matrix headlights and a head-up display projected directly on to the windscreen.
