2019 Suzuki Jimny revealed

The compact SUV comes with a much squarer shape than before and an updated interior that includes a touchscreen infotainment and simple layout.

Suzuki has released the first official images of the fourth generation Jimny that is expected to go on sale by the end of the year.

The compact SUV comes with an all-new design that is much boxier than the previous iteration and could be compared to the Mercedes G-Class in terms of its proportions and design.

The squarer look is complemented by black plastic cladding around the lower edge and front grille, while customers will be able to choose from two-tone and single colour body options.

The Jimny is well-known for being reliable off the beaten track and with the chassis setup unveiled here, this looks to be the case again. The ladder frame chassis used for the new Jimny is known to be angled towards off-road performance.

To aid capabilities on the rough stuff, the Jimny will also come with part-time four-wheel drive with a low-range transfer gear, which will offer grip in trickier conditions – much to the delight of Jimny fans.

Inside, Suzuki has given the SUV a full update, as the sole picture shows a cockpit much like the Swift hatchback that is both modern and simple – including a touchscreen infotainment system and a multifunctional steering wheel.

Engine details are yet to be confirmed, but don’t expect any diesel units after the Japanese brand dropped the gas-guzzling options earlier this year.

After the third generation’s production was brought to a close late last year, this is the first new Jimny since 1998. Full reveal dates and sale timelines are yet to be revealed though.
