Skoda has expanded the line-up of its sporty Octavia vRS with a new petrol and diesel engine.
Following the unveiling of the plug-in hybrid Octavia vRS earlier this year, based on the new fourth-generation version of Skoda’s best-selling hatchback and estate, Skoda is introducing a pair of new engines to complete the line-up.
First up is a 242bhp 2.0-litre petrol unit, which offers the same power as the plug-in hybrid model, and is available with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG automatic.
For those wanting to keep an eye on their fuel economy, a new 197bhp 2.0-litre diesel is also available. This comes mated to the DSG automatic gearbox, and is the only vRS derivative available with all-wheel-drive for extra traction.
Alongside the increased performance that vRS models offer, they also feature revised sportier styling. Most noticeable are the large 18-inch alloy wheels (19s are optional), red brake callipers and revised bumpers to give it a sportier look. Gloss black styling details feature, too.
Inside it features sports seats, which can be trimmed in Alcantara, along with carbon-effect interior trim. The digital Virtual Cockpit also gains sportier settings on top of the standard Octavia.
The vRS is a popular model within the Octavia range – accounting for more than 20 per cent sales. Throughout the generations, it’s also continued to rise in popularity, with 172,000 versions of the outgoing sporty Octavia being produced.
Full pricing and figures for the new Octavia vRS line-up is yet to be announced, but are expected ahead of the models arriving in showrooms in the autumn.
