Skoda’s first big SUV – the Kodiaq – has proven to be a huge success for the firm, with more than 600,000 sold since its introduction in 2016.
As the firm’s first seven-seater, it brought additional practicality to the brand’s range of cars, which are well-known for their versatility, while combining it with a classy look and well-built interior.
Now for 2021 it has been updated further, with a range of changes to ensure it continues to be competitive. Here’s what’s new....
Reworked front end design
Given how classy the Kodiaq still looks, it’s unsurprising that Skoda hasn’t made a vast number of changes in terms of design.
However, it’s mainly the front end that gets tweaked, with a more prominent hexagonal grille featuring, along with the SUV getting new bumpers. The bonnet has also been raised to give the model more of an upright look than before. Other notable changes include a new rear spoiler being introduced, along with a raft of fresh alloy wheel designs.
Matrix LED headlights now available
Matrix LED headlights have recently been introduced to Skoda’s Superb and Octavia models and now they’re also available on the updated Kodiaq. The lights are slimmer than before, while also having a darkened look to make them stand out more.
Matrix LED headlights essentially mean you can leave the full beam on at all times without dazzling other drivers, with the headlights working with a camera system that can pick up other motorists and divert the light around them.
New ergonomic seats available
Comfort has always been one of the Kodiaq’s best strengths and it’s now going to be improved further with new optional ergonomic seats.
It will be the first time such seats have been available on this SUV, and they’re trimmed in perforated leather, while also being ventilated and heated, and even have their own massage function.
New vegan ‘eco’ seats are also available, being made from recycled materials.
Sporty vRS model goes petrol
Despite being a large SUV, Skoda injected some extra flair into the Kodiaq in the form of a hot vRS model. Previously it was available with a bi-turbo diesel engine, but now it’s changing to a new turbocharged petrol engine.
In fact, it uses the same engine as the Volkswagen Golf GTI – a 2.0-litre TSI unit that kicks out 242bhp, bringing more power than the diesel option, while also being noticeably lighter.
Additional safety kit
A long list of safety equipment was already available on the Kodiaq, and that’s now been bolstered further with a new ‘Crew Protect Assist’ function, which features additional radar sensors at the rear, which can respond to vehicles that pose a risk for a rear-end collision.
The updated Skoda Kodiaq is set to go on sale in July, with full pricing and specifications set to be announced nearer the time.
