5 Reasons why you need to get your hands on the Limited Edition Abarth 695 70th Anniversario

The new special edition is one of Abarth’s coolest car ever.

Abarth loves a special edition or two, but the sporty Italian firm’s latest is one of the best yet.

This new model, which is based on the top-spec Abarth 695, has been created to celebrate the brand’s 70th anniversary, and features a whole host of touches to make it one of the firm’s most special yet.

If you’re looking for a new Abarth, this could be it. Here’s why…

The limited-edition factor

No matter what brand, limited models are great. Depending on how few have been made, you’re pretty much guaranteed to never have to see the same car on the roads again, and the exclusivity factor is a big draw. Not only when you’re buying it, but it can also minimise depreciation, too – particularly with Abarth’s loyal following.

Abarth has had a number of special editions over the years, but this version is one of the most exclusive yet. The firm has confirmed that just 1,949 will be produced, which represents 1949 – the year Abarth was founded. With only a few hundred expected to be brought to the UK, you will always have the limited edition factor.

Its awesome adjustable spoiler

One of the key differences with the new 695 70th Anniversario is its exceptionally cool “spoiler ad Assetto Variable” – the Italian way of saying ‘variable trim spoiler’. This is a nod to Abarth’s founder, and is installed to deliver improved grip and stability at higher speeds.

It is manually adjustable – just like was the case in old race cars – and can be put in 12 different positions from zero to 60 degrees. That can offer up to 42kg of extra downforce at higher speeds. As well as being there for aero and performance, it also looks exceptionally cool, and makes this special edition completely different to the rest.

If you’re really wanting to stand out, opt for this Monza 1958 green livery, which harks back to the original Abarth 500 from 1958. It’s a sage-like green, and also comes with Campovolo grey details.

This scheme is exclusive to this special edition, though less brash colours are available – including Circuit Grey, Gara White, Scorpione Black and Podium Blue.

Scorpion decals also feature, while the roof has a big chequered sticker on it, too.

Peppy engine delivers superb performance

One of the best things about the regular Abarth 695 is its wonderful turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine, and thankfully that remains with this special edition.

It’s not the most powerful hot hatch on the market – but it delivers a peppy 177bhp and 250Nm of torque, which allows for a 0-60mph time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 139mph. This special edition also comes with a raucous exhaust system to accompany the experience, too.

Host of other performance upgrades

Aside from the exhaust system, the 695 70th Anniversario also features a host of other performance upgrades.

Visually it comes with lightweight 17-inch SuperSport alloy wheels, along with bright red brake callipers. These brakes house upgraded callipers and discs, too – offering superb stopping power.

The 695 also comes well-equipped as standard, with highlights including Xenon headlights, a seven-inch touchscreen and automatic climate control.
