597bhp Audi RS 6 and RS 7 performance variants unveiled

The Audi RS range is about to get even more powerful, with the addition of a new performance package for the RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback models.

With both producing 552bhp courtesy of a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, they were hardly lacking in power to begin with, but the new performance option boosts output to 597bhp with 750Nm of torque.

Such colossal power comes courtesy of an extended rev band paired with a new overboost function, and can take the RS performance models from 0-62mph in a supercar-rivalling 3.7 seconds.

Just in case you don’t think they’re fast enough, buyers can also choose to have the electronically-limited 155mph top speed extended to either 174mph or 189mph by extra dynamic packages.

Still, despite the significant output boost, Audi says that efficiency hasn’t been sacrificed, claiming that the RS 6 and RS 7 will return up to 29.7mpg on the combined cycle, with 221g/km of CO2.

Audi has also upgraded the standard eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission to handle the extra potential, while both models also come with suspension that’s been lowered by 20mm.

The pair ride on 21-inch cast aluminium wheels with four internally-vented brake discs, which can be swapped out in favour of carbon fibre-ceramic discs for extra stopping power as an option.

Inside, both also come with RS sports seats, black and blue Alcantara and leather upholstery, with carbon inlays and contrasting stitching for a high-performance appearance.

Unfortunately, all that power comes at quite a cost; available to order in the UK from November, prices for the RS 6 and RS 7 performance options start from £86,000 and £91,600 respectively.
