Adventurer completes 16,000km journey in Nissan Leaf

Travelling from Poland to Japan, Marek Kaminski completed the trek after 60 days on the road after starting back in May.

Polish polar voyager Marek Kaminski has completed a 9,941-mile drive from Poland to Japan in a Nissan Leaf as part of the brand’s #NoTraceExpedition.

Starting in Zakopane, southern Poland, Kaminski – the first person to travel to both poles in the same year – and his Leaf travelled through eight countries before reaching the final destination in Tokyo, Japan.

The expedition was undertaken to show the “feasibility of zero-emission travel” and proving that explorers wanting to travel long distances can do so “without damaging the environment.”

Over the first 8,077 miles of the journey, the Leaf was charged 53 times and averaged 155 miles of range on a single charge of its 40 kWh battery pack.

On completing the trek across Eurasia, Kaminski said: “For me, this journey is not just about reaching my destination – it is also about making a simple, brilliant change to be more sustainable.

“Whether in the wilds of Russia, on remote Mongolian dirt tracks or in the bustling streets of Tokyo, the Leaf has been a reliable partner throughout. The car and features such as ProPILOT were impressively capable in tough driving conditions, and even in remote areas with little infrastructure, we kept the Leaf charged and on the move.

“The Leaf gave me the opportunity to stick to my pledge and travel without a trace, so I hope that this is a step forward on the journey towards sustainable mobility.”

Gareth Dunsmore, Nissan Europe electric vehicle director, added: “We believed that his journey demonstrates how, by using an electric vehicle, people can drive huge distances in comfort whilst positively influencing the environment, and Marek has achieved just that.

“A 16,000-kilometer journey is a remarkable undertaking in any vehicle. It shows that we can leave no harmful trace on the environment – even on long journeys – and it is our hope that it will inspire people to travel in an environmentally-friendly manner and embrace the potential of electric cars.”

As if the first 9,941 miles wasn’t enough, Kaminski will be driving the same Leaf all the way back to Poland.
