Alfa Romeo Giulia named Most Beautiful Car of 2016

The Alfa Romeo Giulia, the newest saloon from the Italian carmaker, has won an award category for Most Beautiful Car.

This accolade comes from the Golden Steering Wheel (Das Goldene Lenkrad) competition, hosted by the German publications Auto Bild and Bild am Sonntag and voted on by their readers plus a panel of 29 automotive experts.

The experts panel included former World Rally Champions in Walter Rohrl and Sebastien Ogier, as well as the DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom and the famous car designer Andrea Zagato.

The Giulia, which is Alfa’s new compact executive saloon and the successor to the 159, is available to order now in the UK and first deliveries are taking place this month. Priced from £29,180, the Giulia rivals the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Jaguar XE and Audi A4.

Using an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, the Giulia’s engines include a 197bhp petrol engine and a 2.2-litre turbodiesel available with 148bhp or 177bhp.

Topping the Giulia range is the Quadrifoglio performance derivative which is priced at £59,000. It uses a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine boasting 507bhp and 600Nm of torque. With this, the Quadrifolgio takes just 3.9 seconds to cover the 0-62mph sprint.

Standard kit for all Giulia models includes rear parking sensors, cruise control, DAB radio and dual-zone climate control.
