Alpina has taken the covers off its latest version of the XD3 SUV, which is based on the BMW X3.

Fitted with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine that is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the XD3 has 328bhp and 700Nm of torque at its disposal – meaning it can get from 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 157mph.

The power is driven through all four wheels thanks to BMW’s xDrive system, but Alpina has added its own torque distributor to help deliver the best traction possible as well as a safer drive.

Alpina states that it can achieve 31.8mpg and emit 238g/km CO2 – which would place it in the higher road tax brackets.

Depending on driver preference, they can choose between several driving modes including Sport+ and Comfort+, which alters the setup of the car.

The XD3 sits on adaptive sports suspension with adjustable dampers, with a limited slip differential fitted to the rear of the chassis for optimal handling.

Coming as standard with 20-inch alloy wheels, the XD3 is also available with forged 22-inch lightweight alloy wheels.

As with other Alpina commissions, the XD3 comes with a more premium interior compared to the X3 – including an all-leather interior trim.

Full details on specification and pricing will be unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, when the XD3 will get its full public debut.
