Audi has unveiled its Q4 e-tron Sportback concept – a model that closely previews a new coupe-SUV that’s set to debut in 2021.
It follows on from the Q4 e-tron showcased at last year’s Geneva Motor Show, with this Sportback being the more ‘coupe’-like bodystyle of the forthcoming EV.
The new Q4 e-tron will be Audi’s first car to be based on the Volkswagen Group’s dedicated MEB platform for electric cars, which also underpins the Volkswagen ID.3 and Skoda Enyaq.
Two electric motors provide the power – 302bhp to be precise, which Audi says can take the concept to 60mph in 6.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 111mph. It also features a large 82kWh battery, which will offer a range of up to 310 miles in rear-wheel-drive versions, while those with all-wheel-drive are set to achieve up to 279 miles.
While just a concept for now, this Q4 e-tron Sportback concept is set to be closely matched to next year’s production model. Trademark Audi cues such as the large Singleframe front grille remain, along with large alloys and a fancy LED light bar at the rear.
Audi is promising the model’s interior will offer the spaciousness of larger models, as the lack of transmission tunnel creates more room than what you’d find in a conventional car. Sustainability has also been prioritised, with recycled materials used on this concept.
While the interior might be altered slightly on the production model, the de-cluttered layout, large touchscreen and digital instrument cluster are likely to be carried over.
The production Q4 e-tron Sportback GT is set to launch in 2021, and will be the firm’s seventh EV, with the German manufacturer aiming to have 25 electric models on sale by 2025.
