Audi unveils Carbon Edition models for RS 4 and RS 5 models

The premium sports cars come with more carbon-fibre detailing and RS features as standard.

Audi has revealed the Carbon Edition version for two of its RS models, the RS 4 Avant and RS 5.

If the models weren’t sporty enough, the German manufacturer has given these cars more carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CRFP) panels to make them lighter, milled 20-inch alloy wheels and RS features.

Both models have gone on a diet, shedding weight thanks to the extensive use of CRFP. The RS5 version weighs 60kg less than the previous generation, while the RS4 Avant has lost 80kg by being fitted with the Carbon Edition pack.

On both Carbon Edition models Audi adds the Carbon Matt Aluminium Styling Pack, which gives a CRFP finish to the front spoiler, sills and interior inlays, with the wing mirror housings made from the composite material. The RS5 version also comes with a CRFP roof panel, with other exterior changes including a matt aluminium finish for the grille and window surrounds.

RS additions to each model include a sports exhaust system, matrix headlights, sports suspension and RS-specific displays for the Virtual Cockpit display, which sits in the instrument binnacle.

Audi has also added a CRFP engine cover for the 2.9-litre biturbo V6 engine, which produces 443bhp and 600Nm of torque. That power is driven through the world-renowned quattro all-wheel drive system that comes as standard with all RS models.

Inside, the CRFP theme continues with inlays on the dashboard and doors, while the seats are upholstered in black Nappa leather with red honeycomb stitching. Technological features include an 8.3-inch central touchscreen that comes with satellite navigation and Audi’s Connect Infotainment system.

The models also come with the latest safety systems such as multi-collision brake assist and side assist with blind spot warning. Other safety packs are also available.

Due to the sportier nature of both models, they come at a premium over the normal versions. The RS4 Avant Carbon Edition starts from £71,625 (£10,000 more than the standard), while the RS5 has a £12,500 premium over the normal model and starts from £75,400. The RS5 versions come to the UK this December, while the RS4 models start arriving in March 2018.
