BMW M3 Touring previewed on the move

Performance estate car is set to arrive in 2022.

BMW has given a closer look at its upcoming M3 Touring in a new video posted to M’s official Instagram account.

Though wearing heavy camouflage, this is the most in-depth look at the upcoming performance estate to date. It’s shown leaving the performance division’s Munich headquarters as it commences on-road development measures.

Due to the be fully unveiled in 2022, it’s the first production M3 Touring to be produced and will go on to rival the likes of the Audi RS4 Avant and Mercedes-AMG C63S.

Despite the heavy coverage, it’s easy to see the M3’s relation to the regular 3 Series Touring, though the heavily flared arches are hard to miss. There are also additional air intakes and a sports exhaust system at the rear too.

It’s also set to use the vertically orientated front grille as seen on the new 4 Series rather than the traditional, horizontal grille setup that has been used on the current 3 Series Touring.

It’ll sit alongside the new M3 saloon and M4 Coupe, both of which are due to be unveiled in September. A convertible version is slated for the following year, too.

Though technical details are scarce, BMW has said that the new M3 Touring will be powered by a turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine. It’s expected to be the same one which is due to feature in the upcoming M3 and M4, and is likely to produce around 473bhp.
