BMW reveals official spyshots of new 4 Series Coupe ahead of debut later this year

The popular coupe is entering its final stage of testing

BMW has revealed official teaser images of its new 4 Series Coupe, as the model enters its final stages of development.

The new 3 Series-based model is set to be as sleek to look at as ever, and while the model pictured is heavily disguised and gives little away, it shows the model’s cool shape. The headlights also have the same signature as the 3 Series model, too.

It was expected that the new model would feature a large front grille – similar to that of the flagship 7 Series, for example – though interestingly the design seems to be more toned-down than expected.

BMW says the new 4 Series’ chassis is more bespoke than before and be more dynamic to drive as well. Compared with the 3 Series Saloon that the model is based on, the new 4 Series has a lower drag coefficient (improving aerodynamics) and is 57mm lower – offering a lower centre of gravity as a result.

While powertrain details are yet to be confirmed, BMW has said that a sporty M440i xDrive will spearhead the line-up, with its 3.0-litre engine producing 369bhp and featuring all-wheel-drive and an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission. The model also comes with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, too, which aids responsiveness as well as efficiency.

The model is now entering its final round of testing near to BMW’s home in Munich – following winter testing in Arjeplog, Sweden and at the Nürburgring race circuit, among others.
