Buyer’s guide to the new Vauxhall Corsa

The Corsa continues to be a hugely popular small car

Over the years a lot has changed in the automotive industry, but there are some things that never alter – one of these being the Vauxhall Corsa’s popularity.

The Corsa’s mix of great value for money, attractive deals and stylish looks have really helped its appeal over the years, and the new model is now even more attractive thanks to its higher-quality interior, sleek design and enjoyable driving experience.

There’s also a new electric model in the form of the new Corsa-e.

Sound appealing? Here’s what you need to know about the Corsa.

What powertrains are available?

Vauxhall covers most bases when it comes to powertrains, with a choice of petrol, diesel and electric Corsas available.

The most affordable Corsa is the naturally-aspirated 74bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine, which comes with a five-speed manual gearbox. Due to its limited power, it’s best for using around towns and cities due to a 0-60mph time of 12.4 seconds, though it will return a claimed 53.3mpg with CO2 emissions of 133g/km.

If you want a touch more power, choose the turbocharged 99bhp 1.2-litre petrol, which reduces the 0-60mph time down to 9.3 seconds, though offers very similar efficiency to the lesser model. You can choose it with either a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic.

High-mileage drivers should look at the 101bhp 1.5-litre diesel that comes with a six-speed manual transmission, which can reach 60mph in 9.6 seconds andl return up to an impressive 70.6mpg, with CO2 emissions of 108g/km.

And then of course there’s the electric Corsa-e, which is both the most powerful and cheapest model to run. It features a 50kWh battery with an 134bhp electric motor - enabling a 0-60mph time of 7.6 seconds. It’s also able to charge in 30 minutes (from 15 to 80 per cent) using a 100kW charger, or seven hours 30 minutes with a 7kW wallbox at home.

What trim levels are offered?

A whole multitude of trim levels are available on the Corsa, with equipment highlights and pricing as follows.

What about personalisation?

Vauxhall has really cut the number of options available on the Corsa, encouraging you instead to just choose the trim level that works for you.

However, there’s a good selection of colours available, including Power Orange, Voltaic Blue and Hot Red, while all but SE grades are available with a gloss black roof, though you don’t have to have this if you would prefer not to.
