Car sales up in November for VW

Sales across the EU were up in November 2015, with dramatic increases for Italy and Spain, along with a reasonable 4 per cent gain in the UK.

November car sales figures for the European Union were up by 13.5 per cent compared with the same month in 2014, while sales of Volkswagen vehicles rose by 3.3 per cent across Europe.

It was the 27th month of consecutive growth, with sales of 1.13 million cars in November, contributing to the total 13.06 million cars finding homes across the EU.

While the UK car market was up by an impressive four per cent, the real growth was driven by Spain and Italy, with sales up a remarkable 26 and 24 per cent respectively, while France posted an 11 per cent increase and the German market grew by 9 per cent.

Volkswagen was the biggest brand in the EU, with 137,840 registrations, but this only equated to a 3.3 per cent increase. Renault on the other hand, increased sales by 19.3 per cent, to reach 79,194 sales, just ahead of Ford with 79,148.

Two of the biggest movers were Jaguar (up 79 per cent), and Land Rover with a 74 per cent increase in sales, which represents great news for the British car industry. Smart also jumped 78 per cent as it released its first new models for some time, while Jeep and Mazda also saw large increases.

The biggest-selling cars were the Volkswagen Golf and Polo in first and second places, followed by the Renault Clio and Ford Fiesta

New models posted strong performances too, particularly the Fiat 500X, with 8,120 sales, the Hyundai Tucson (8,003), Ford Mondeo (6,463), Suzuki Vitara (5,066) and Land Rover Discover Sport (4,559).
