Chris Evans tops BBC rich list earning more than £2m a year

BBC discloses 96 highest earning on-screen personalities with former Top Gear presenter Chris Evans named the best paid talent.

The BBC has published a controversial list revealing the salaries of its 96 highest-earning on-screen personalities.

Official figures show former Top Gear host and Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans was the best paid star last year. All salaries are disclosed in £500,000 bands, so while an exact figure is unknown, the list confirms Evans took home somewhere between a staggering £2.2 million - £2.25 million in the year ending April 2017.

Interestingly, Top Gear’s Matt LeBlanc does not feature on the list; however, his earnings are likely to be paid by BBC Worldwide, which is not required to disclose any figures.

For the first time, the public service broadcaster has been forced to reveal the earnings of talent who are paid more than £150,000 from license fee revenue in a year, outlined by the new Royal Charter from the government.

Other personalities in the top salary band include Gary Lineker, Graham Norton, Jeremey Vine and Huw Edwards.
