Chris Harris lands his own new television series in the US

Top Gear co-host and YouTube hero Chris Harris has already landed a new TV show of his own in the US, following the end of the first series of the revamped BBC motoring programme.

Broadcast by BBC America, the new gig is based off his popular Chris Harris on Cars series, which has racked up nearly 20 million views and won over 250,000 subscribers since launching in 2014.

The seven-part series, which will debut later this month, will see Harris explore the “technical complexities” of some of the world’s fastest and most exclusive cars.

Just some of the high-powered machines featured in the series will be the Aston Martin GT12 and the new Honda NSX and Harris promises plenty of powerslides and “wanton tyre destruction”.

As well as that, Harris will also be featuring in a series of short films hosted on the Top Gear site, which will see him reunited with long-term collaborator and cameraman Neil Carey.

The new US-based show comes in the wake of Top Gear US being cancelled by the Syfy channel after six seasons but mixed ratings from the audiences.

It also follows news earlier this week that Chris Evans is officially stepping down from his role as lead presenter of the original British version of Top Gear amid criticism from viewers.

Although Evans quickly proved unpopular with audiences, Harris has enjoyed a sudden surge in popularity for his segments on the show, plus the spin-off Extra Gear hosted by him and Rory Reid.
