Demand for BMW’s electrified models reaches all-time high

The firm’s electrified sales increased by nearly 20 per cent in November

BMW has set a new record for worldwide registrations of its electrified models, with sales increasing by 18.4 per cent.

At the same time, overall BMW brand sales increased by 2.9 per cent in November 2019, with 194,690 models registered.

Plug-in hybrid BMW sales increased by 20.3 per cent last month compared to the same time in 2018, with the ‘i’ brand also recording rises of 18 per cent for the i3 EV and i8 sports car. BMW also said that one in five 5 Series saloons sold last month was the plug-in hybrid 530e, while registrations of the Mini Countryman PHEV shot up by 50 per cent.

With BMW pushing ahead to have 1,000,000 electrified versions of its cars on the road by 2021, this growth will be positive news for the firm. By 2025 it wants 50 per cent of sales to be electrified, and is targeting 25 of these models to be on sale by then. More than 13 of these will be all-electric, too.

Pieter Nota, head of sales at BMW AG, said: “After renewed growth in November, we continue to approach a new record for the full year as planned.

Our electrified vehicles also performed particularly well in November, with sales increasing by 18.4% to reach a new all-time sales high.”

Elsewhere sales of BMW’s SUVs continue to increase, while the latest 3 Series Saloon and Touring are also remaining popular.
