DS design concept reveals car of your dreams

The X E-Tense is the French brand’s vision of how cars will look in 2035 and would include a circuit mode alongside a normal road-going mode.

French brand DS has revealed a concept that was inspired by the dream ideas of its designers to create a car for the future.

The DS X E-Tense is a vision of motoring in 2035 and the design combines modern materials and ideologies with an all-electric powertrain.

Fitted with two seats that are set out asymmetrically, each seat offers a different environment for the driver and passenger – with the passenger having a soothing, encased cocoon with a ventilated massage seat.

The electro-chromatic glass floor gives occupants a view of the road zipping by underneath and the combination of wood, leather and metal under a glass canopy give the interior a bright and modern feel.

A sound bar forms the basis of the dashboard and a glazed surface performs as the infotainment system rather than your standard tablet-like display. The IRIS hologram personal assistant would sort the vehicle settings out.

Driving this vision of the future is an all-electric powertrain derived from the one that will be used in DS’s Formula E race car for the sport’s fifth season and is has two modes with differing outputs. In road mode, the X E-Tense has 536bhp but when switched into track mode that power is more than doubled to 1,341bhp for the ultimate driving experience.

The driver can choose between driving it themselves or leaving it up to the car to navigate the roads through autonomous technology.

Sitting on a carbon fibre chassis, the body includes many of the design aspects of current DS models but with a distinct futuristic twist.

This concept was shown for the first time at the 2018 Auto China show in Beijing.
