Facelift and new name for revised Vauxhall Mokka X

Following swiftly on from the Corsa and the Astra, Vauxhall is giving its popular Mokka a facelift for 2016, along with a new model designation to underscore its status as a crossover SUV.

Now known as the Mokka X, the updated model features bold new exterior looks, plus a refresh to the interior and its equipment list, plus a range of new engine and powertrain options.

British designer Mark Adam led the team that reworked the Mokka X’s exterior, which now features a wing-shaped horizontal front grille, plus sharp double-wing LED daytime running lights.

More muscular and athletic on the outside, the rear also now features LED tail lights as an option, while Vauxhall has added new colours including Amber Orange and Lava Red to the options list.

Inside, the Mokka X now benefits from a completely rehauled dashboard inspired by that in the new Astra, with a more ergonomically laid out instrument panel and redeveloped centre stack.

New looks, new engine and new kit

Designed specifically around the new seven- and eight-inch touchscreen infotainment systems, the centre console now features fewer buttons, with functionality transferred to the touchscreen.

The new-generation IntelliLink infotainment system also supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone functions, alongside Vauxhall’s new OnStar service assistance feature.

Vauxhall also says that it got specific input from independent back health experts to help design the new ergonomic seats, which it says makes long journeys and off-roading alike more comfortable.

After the introduction of the 1.6-litre ‘Whisper Diesel’ engine to the range last year, the Mokka X is now also available with a new 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 150bhp.

First introduced in the all-new Astra, in the Mokka the turbo petrol engine can deliver up to 42.8mpg with 154g/km of CO2, when equipped with a six-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive.

Prices for the new Vauxhall Mokka X have yet to be unveiled, but the car is due to make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month and is expected to go on sale later this year.
