Ferrari 812 Superfast to debut in Geneva

Ferrari has released images and details of its new flagship GT car, which is called the 812 Superfast. It will make its first public appearance next month at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

The new Ferrari comes with the most powerful naturally-aspirated V12 engine the company has ever produced. The 6.5-litre petrol unit delivers as much as 789bhp, which is 20bhp more than the track-focused Ferrari F12tdf. It is also the same amount of power the LaFerrari produces without hybrid assistance.

The immense power is sent to the rear wheels and through a dual-clutch transmission. Maximum torque is 718Nm, which is reached at 7,000rpm. The 0-62mph sprint is covered by the new 812 in just 2.9 seconds, which is a tenth of a second less than the 812’s predecessor, the F12 Berlinetta.

One major change to the driving dynamics compared to predecessors is that the 812 will be the first Ferrari to use the brand’s new electronic power steering setup. It is bound to feel rather different to the hydraulic steering featured in the likes of the F12.

Another major feature is an updated version of Ferrari’s four-wheel-steering system which first debuted on the F12tdf. It’s known as Virtual Short Wheelbase 2.0 and Ferrari says it will improve the nimbleness and stability of the car when cornering.

The interior meanwhile comes with sports seats with an all-new design and Ferrari’s latest infotainment system.

Pricing for the Ferrari 812 Superfast is currently unconfirmed but the ultra-performance grand tourer will likely cost a little more than the F12, so expect it to start from just over £240,000.
