First look at the Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce Roadster

The first images of the limited-edition Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce Roadster have surfaced ahead of its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

Retaining much of the same angry-looking styling as the Superveloce Coupe that was unveiled in Geneva last March, the Roadster also features the same folding hardtop roof.

Built largely from carbon fibre, Lamborghini’s engineers says that its body kit has been designed specifically to provide more downforce, minimise drag and force air over the engine to cool it.

There’s a lot of engine to cool, too. Powered by a huge naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12, the Superveloce Roadster churns out a maximum 740bhp with peak torque clocking in at 687Nm.

Built entirely by hand at Lambo’s HQ in Sant’Agata Bolognese in Italy, the 12-cylinder engine can shoot the car from 0-62mph in an utterly insane 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of over 217mph.

The Coupe version recently smashed its way around the Nurburgring’s Nordschleife track in an incredible 6m 59s, though the Roadster is marginally heavier at 1,575kg compared to its 1,525kg sibling.

Unfortunately, it might be a while before the Superveloce Roadster is allowed to take on the track, after Nurburgring bosses recently announced a hot lap time ban, but its performance is expected to be extremely similar.

Other engineering highlights include a seven-speed automatic transmission, which Lamborghini claims can shift in as little as 50 milliseconds, plus a highly advanced adaptive suspension system.

Interior details aren’t available quite yet, but it’s expected that it’ll come with the same carbon fibre bucket seats as the Superveloce Coupe, along with the same range-specific instrument cluster.

Only 500 models will be built in total, a full 100 fewer than the Coupe version, and it’s expected to sell out quickly despite a base price that’s estimated to be in and around £325,000.

In the meantime, however, full details on the Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce Roadster are expected to be known upon its official unveiling in Frankfurt later this year.
