Five things to know about the Ford Ka+

We take a look at Ford’s smallest offering and show you what surprises the city car has up its sleeves.

As the third generation of the cute city car, the Ka+ continues to offer a practical outlay but now with a more built-up stance.

Now marketed as a B-segment competitor against the likes of the Dacia Sandero and Kia’s Picanto, the Ka+ is more built-up than its predecessors and is crammed with plenty of useful kit.

We pick out the highlights…

Plenty of tech on offer

Despite the relatively cheap starting price, the Ka+ can be fitted with some rather advanced safety features to keep you on the straight and narrow. The Ka+ comes with ESC, traction control, cruise control with adjustable speed limiter, electric power-assisted steering and hill start assist. Ford also offers parking distance sensors, automatic headlights and auto start/stop.

Good amount of space

As it is more of a chunky city car than anything else, you might not expect tons of space – but you’d be surprised. In the standard format, you get 270 litres of boot space, which can be extended to 849 litres when the rear seats are folded down. That can come in handy when lugging things around.

It comes with an Active model

As crossovers are all the rage at the moment, Ford jumped on the bandwagon and decided to design an SUV-based version. Called the Ka+ Active, it comes with plastic cladding around the bottom edge and silver roof bars to add a more rugged look. It is also the top-end model of the range, so comes with all the top tech, including an infotainment touchscreen.

Infotainment options are very handy

With the Ka+, you have two options as to how you run the infotainment in your car. You can either have the standard Ford Sync 3 infotainment with a touchscreen system that includes all of the media and satellite navigation options, or in the lower spec model you can mount your mobile phone in a special dock that holds it in place on the dashboard. That allows you to navigate with a map application on there while keeping your eyes on the road ahead.

Affordable starting price

Although it is much more expensive than the budget Dacia Sandero, the Ka+’s £10,800 starting point really isn’t that bad at all. On the standard Studio model, you get electric windows, 15-inch wheels, DAB radio with device dock and hill start assist. If you’re after a cheap-to-run small car, then the Ka+ in any guise could be for you.
