Ford announces pricing for new Transit Custom Nugget camper

The new camper van competes against models such as the Volkswagen California.

Ford has announced UK pricing for its new Transit Custom Nugget – a camper that can be ordered directly from Ford, rather than buyers having to have it converted aftermarket.

The Nugget joins the growing camper van market, with more buyers looking at mobile homes as a way of holidaying.

Onboard Wi-Fi is fitted as standard thanks to an in-built hotspot for up to 10 devices provided by Ford Pass Connect.

It also comes with a three-room layout, which includes a kitchen area that is separate from the rear seats, along with a tilting roof that allows for additional headroom. The Nugget can sleep up to four, while you can walk through the van from front to back.

Throughout the passenger area, it features a wood-effect floor that should be easy to clean, along with an L-shaped kitchenette and a 40-litre fridge, to name just a few highlights. It is converted by market experts Westfalia, who have been Ford’s motorhome specialist for many years.

An eight-inch touchscreen with Ford’s Sync3 infotainment system is also fitted, while the Nugget also features a host of driver assistance features. Highlights include adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and park assist, which can help with both parallel and bay parking.

Hans Schep, general manager of Ford of Europe’s commercial vehicle division, said: “More and more customers are recognising the freedom and fun that camper vans can offer, and we’re excited to be able to offer a greater number of adventure-seekers our Transit Custom Nugget, which is already much-loved in Germany.”

Making its UK debut at The Motorhome and Caravan Show 2019, the Transit camper is powered by a 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, which is available with outputs of either 128bhp or 182bhp. Prices start from £56,273 and rise to £58,199. The Transit Custom Nugget is on sale now.
