When it comes to Ford’s SUVs, it’s the Puma and Kuga that lead the way for buyers.
However, there’s a third crossover in the range that’s often incorrectly overlooked – the Ecosport. Bringing chunky styling, affordable pricing and plenty of kit, there are many reasons for choosing it.

It’s Ford’s most affordable crossover
Value for money remains an important consideration when it comes to a compact crossover, and if you’re looking to keep costs down, the Ecosport will appeal as Ford’s most affordable SUV – undercutting the Puma by around £1,300.
Prices for the Ecosport start from £20,845 and rise to £22,045 – meaning this model offers buyers great value for money.
You get plenty of standard kit
Along with its low starting price, the Ecosport also delivers on the equipment front – namely because it’s only available in three high-spec trim levels, which are Titanium, ST-Line and Active.
Regardless of version, all models deliver great value for money, with even standard models coming equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera, climate control and an eight-inch touchscreen to name but a few features.
Eager petrol engines
While Ford used to offer diesel engines in the Ecosport, it’s now resorted to just petrol power. That’s no bad thing, though, when you have the firm’s willing 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet.
Available here in outputs of either 123bhp or 138bhp, both deliver a good balance of performance and efficiency – helping the Ecosport to return nearly 50mpg, with CO2 emissions of 135g/km.
It has a spacious interior
While some crossovers prefer to adopt a more stylish approach, Ford has favoured functionality with the Ecosport.
The tall shape means rear passengers will have far more room back there than in plenty of rivals, though the 335-litre boot is one of the smallest in this class.
New Active trim brings rugged styling to the range
Recently joining the Ecosport is a rugged-looking new Active trim level. It’s a grade that’s already available on many other Ford models and helps to bring more chunky styling to this baby SUV.
Changes include its bulky black wheel mouldings, tweaked grille and upgraded underbody protection. A new set of 17-inch alloy wheels also feature.
