Ford Kuga: 5 things you need to know

Ford’s largest SUV sold in the UK remains a very popular choice

Like plenty of manufacturers, Ford is increasingly turning its focus to SUVs.

These are the models that are proving the most popular with buyers, with cars like the Puma and Kuga now outselling once best-selling Fords like the Fiesta and Focus.

Particularly for families, there’s a vast amount of appeal to the Kuga too, which now ranks as one of the UK’s most popular SUVs. Here are five things you need to know about it…

It’s Ford’s roomiest SUV

SUVs are now proving a particularly popular choice with families, with their larger interiors generally offering more space than the equivalent hatchback. And if it’s space you’re after, the best model on offer in Ford’s SUV line-up is the Kuga.

Sitting above the smaller Ecosport and Puma in its line-up, the Kuga offers plenty of room for families wanting a practical but still well-sized vehicle. With a large boot offering up to 526 litres with the sliding seats put in their forwards position, and loads of rear seat space, the Kuga could be the ideal family car.

Great range of electrified models

More buyers are increasingly looking to make the switch to electrified models, and if you’re looking to reduce your running costs by doing so, the Ford Kuga could be an ideal choice.

That’s because it’s available as both a hybrid and plug-in hybrid, with both reducing CO2 emissions and also driving up fuel economy figures in the process. The plug-in hybrid is particularly appealing thanks to its super-efficient powertrain, which is able to travel for up to 39 miles on electricity alone.

Plenty of technology on offer

Ford’s latest Kuga is the most advanced yet, with the brand kitting it out with a range of technology to make it as cutting-edge as possible.

Highlights include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and hands-free electric tailgate, while quad-projector LED headlights, self-parking functionality and a blind spot information system are all available on the options list.

Good to drive

Ford has always had a pretty remarkable knack at making (what seem like) quite ordinary cars fantastic to drive, and even as we move into SUVs – where the laws of physics aren’t really on their side – that hasn’t changed.

In fact, the Kuga is one of the best cars in its class to drive, with a level of agility and responsiveness that you don’t often see from family SUVs of this type.

Good value for money

Another trait that adds to the Kuga’s appeal is the value-for-money element, with this Ford comfortably coming in at under £30,000 for a Zetec version.

Priced from £28,755, it still gets a long list of standard equipment, including front and rear parking sensors, keyless start and an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
