Ford has been commended by Europe’s leading vehicle safety authority for the quality of safety equipment on the 2018 Focus.
After being given a five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP earlier on in 2018, the hatchback has been highlighted by the authority as part of its first event to highlight driver assistance systems.
The Focus introduced more safety systems than any other Ford before it as part of the Co-Pilot360 system, which uses the three radars, two cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors fitted to the family hatchback.
The automated driving assessment event included testing the vehicle’s response when encountering slower-moving, braking or stationary vehicles, steering support and avoiding obstacles – with the Focus found to allow full driver control as well as supporting them fully in risky situations.
Ford’s automated driving manager Thomas Lukaszewicz said: “The key challenge is developing systems that keep the driver informed of all situations and allow the driver to feel completely in control.

Michiel van Ratingen, Euro NCAP secretary general, said: “The Ford Focus delivers a very balanced package of driver assistance technologies, with the capability to make journeys safer, while also ensuring that the driver needs to remain alert and ready to take appropriate action in an emergency.”
On sale now, the Ford Focus will grow with the addition of the Active version, which arrives later this year. Prices for the Focus range start from £17,930.
