Ford has taken the covers off the Transit Custom Nugget campervan.
Using the UK’s most popular commercial vehicle as the base, Ford employed specialist converters Westfalia to turn the vehicle into a campervan – putting the Nugget in direct competition with the legendary Volkswagen California.
People will be able to order the vehicle through Ford dealers, meaning the van can be maintained and serviced by registered engineers from the American brand.
Using the EcoBlue 2.0-litre diesel engine in one of two power guises, the Nugget is based on the latest version of the Transit Custom and is set to feature Ford’s latest technology, such as the Sync3 infotainment setup.
The Nugget incorporates a hinged raising roof for improved headroom while standing in the kitchen area, which includes a small sink, twin-burner gas hob and cool box, as well as food cupboards and a cutlery drawer.
The converted van can sleep up to four people, with one of the two beds folding out of the roof and the other placed in the living area. A Porta-Potti also gets its own compartment.
See Available Ford dealsCustomers will also be able to choose a Long-wheelbase option, which is 37cm longer and allows for improved storage space, a sink in the kitchen and a built-in toilet and shower at the back. It also comes with an additional compartment onto the roof of the camper.
Prices are yet to be announced for the Transit Custom Nugget, but it is expected to start at a similar price to its main rivals – so about £40,000.
