Ford has taken the covers off its latest edition of the Edge SUV, with the new version coming in a new ST-Line guise.

The sporty trim covers the latest addition to Ford’s economical turbocharged engine range – the 2.0-litre EcoBlue, which has two turbos and produces 234bhp.

This new diesel unit has been made to be more efficient than previous options and it can be paired with Ford’s Intelligent All Wheel Drive system – with the engine delivering more torque lower down the rev range.

In the ST-Line trim, the new Edge comes with a sportier grille design, more chiselled front and rear bumpers, enhanced side skirts and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The second-generation model also brings with it three new driver assistance systems. Post-collision braking, evasive steering assist – to aid drivers steering around slow or stationary vehicles up to motorway speeds – and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane centring assist are all added to Ford’s safety portfolio.

Inside, the new model comes with Ford’s Sync3 infotainment system – which is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible – as well as wireless charging, a digital instrument cluster and a high-end feel. Optional extras include a panoramic roof, heated and cooled front seats and heated rear seats.

Four trim levels will be available – Vignale, Titanium, Trend and ST-Line – with pricing yet to be announced.

Ford of Europe’s vice president for marketing, sales and services, Roelant de Waart, said: “Helping customers effortlessly deal with stop-start traffic using our most advanced driver assistance technologies to-date, and letting them cruise in comfort supported by our refined and fuel-efficient new 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine and eight-speed automatic gearbox, the new Ford Edge is our most compelling offering yet for the ever-growing numbers of European customers migrating towards SUVs.”

More details of the new Edge will be released in due course.
