Here’s your first look at the warm-ish Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce

Alfa Romeo has unveiled the new Giulia Veloce, a ‘warm’ model that aims to bridge the gap between the regular Giulia saloon and the range-topping Giulia Quadrifoglio performance model.

Alfa says that the Giulia Veloce offers the dynamic looks of the sportier model with the sensibility of the more everyday cars, and is available to order in the UK now, with prices starting from £37,935.

Originally, Alfa had said that the Veloce would be available with four-wheel drive and a choice of different engines, but the production model instead features a new 2.0-litre petrol engine exclusive to the trim.

Producing a maximum of 276bhp and 400Nm of torque, power is transmitted through an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox to the rear wheels only: no four-wheel drive for this car after all.

Still, it’s respectably quick with a 0-62mph time of just 5.7 seconds and it’ll run all the way on to 149mph. That’s 50mph off the range-topping Quadrifoglio, mind you, but it’s still not half bad.

Alfa says it can return up to 46.3mpg with 141g/km of CO2 for a responsive yet relatively efficient drive, while the Veloce also benefits from enhanced exterior styling.

Similar to the existing Speciale trim, it gets sportier bumpers and a rear sports diffuser with twin tailpipes, plus 18-inch alloy wheels with large-diameter brakes and black calipers.

Exclusive to the Veloce model is the Misano Blue paintjob pictured here, while standard equipment includes front and rear parking sensors, plus Alfa’s 8.8-inch Alfa Connect infotainment system.
