Land Rover has unveiled the first official teaser images of the all-new, fifth-generation version of the stalwart Discovery SUV.

Due to be unveiled in full towards the end of the month, Land Rover says that the Discovery 5 has been engineered “with absolute versatility, capability and technology like no other”.

It’s certainly worlds apart from the boxy and utilitarian Discoveries of old with a handsome and sleek front end reminiscent of a tougher version of the Evoque.

The new 2017 Discovery will also come with seven seats like its smaller and sportier Discovery Sport counterpart, but aside from that there’s not a huge amount known about the car yet.

"Absolute versatility and capability"

It’s expected that the Discovery will follow in the footsteps of previous models, by offering a slightly more hard-wearing and practical alternative to more family friendly models like the Disco Sport.

All the same, it’s also expected to feature the latest in Jaguar Land Rover’s infotainment technology, a more comfortable and luxurious interior and the same all-aluminium construction as JLR’s recent models.

As well as that, the new Land Rover Discovery is expected to come with a range of the company’s 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engines, whereas the previous Discovery only came with a 3.0-litre V6.

Further information is still firmly under wraps, but it’s expected that more will be known upon the new Discovery’s public debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month.
