Honda to electrify all models in Europe by 2025

The Japanese brand confirmed the plans at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show alongside the e Prototype, which made its public debut.

Honda confirmed that all of its cars on sale in Europe will have some form of electrification by 2025 – with hybrid and battery-powered vehicles on the slate.

Originally, Honda had said that two-thirds of its sales by 2025 would be electrified, but the firm has accelerated those plans due to ‘environmental challenges’ and the ‘unrelenting march of technology’.

Honda Motor Europe’s senior vice president Tom Gardner said: “Since we made that first pledge in March 2017, the shift towards electrification has gathered pace considerably.

“Environmental challenges continue to drive demand for cleaner mobility. Technology marches on unrelenting and people are starting to shift their view of the car itself.”

This advancement in the brand’s electrification strategy is all part of Honda wanting all its global models to use some form of electric power by 2030.

The Japanese marque announced the plans at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, where it also gave the e Prototype its public debut – the first all-electric Honda to go on sale in Europe.

The prototype city car was unveiled last week and the car on show at Geneva is the near-production version that will go on sale towards the end of 2019.

Capable of around 125 miles of range from a single charge, the e Prototype comes with retro styling inspired by the Urban EV Concept that was revealed back in 2017, and is fitted with some of Honda’s most advanced features to date.

The Japanese brand also announced that 15,000 customers have registered interest in the car, which is expected to cost around £30,000.
