Jaguar to build all-electric E-Types

The brand’s Classic branch will be turning its E-Type Zero concept into a full production model.

In an attempt to bring one of its finest models bang up to date, Jaguar has decided to turn the E-Type Zero concept into a production model.

Built by the brand’s Classic division, the all-electric concept will be made in a limited run – combining the iconic looks of the E-Type Roadster with a zero-emission powertrain underneath.

Using the expertise gained from building the I-Pace electric SUV, Jaguar will also be offering an EV conversion service for existing owners of the classic sports car.

Tim Hannig, Jaguar Land Rover Classic director, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the Jaguar E-Type Zero concept. Future-proofing the enjoyment of classic car ownership is a major stepping stone for Jaguar Classic.

“E-Type Zero showcases the incredible heritage of the E-Type, and the expertise and craftsmanship at Classic Works, while demonstrating Jaguar Land Rover’s dedication to creating zero emission vehicles across every part of the business, including Jaguar Classic.”

The concept was revealed at the Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest in 2017, and offers quicker acceleration to 60mph than the Series 1 model. Although specifications haven’t been revealed yet, Jaguar plan to give the E-Type Zero a range of 170 miles and a 40kWh battery that can be charged in six to seven hours.

The production model would also come with modernised features, such as digital dials, a touchscreen infotainment system and LED headlights.

Jaguar Classic are now asking for people to state their interest, with the first production models expected to be delivered from 2020.
